Massively constructed with planked double hull on oak frames. A fine example from a top Norwegian yard, she has been substantially upgraded, including wiring and mechanicals to US standards.

ACCOMMODATIONS,
FURNISHINGS & LAYOUT:

Staterooms: 4 plus pilot berth.
Heads 3
Showers: 3

LAYOUT FROM FORWARD: Chain locker is followed by a foreward head with integral shower that is shared by the two identical crew cabins following on port and starboard, each with stacked single berths with hanging locker storage.

Centerline companionway stairs lead up and aft to the foredeck.
Full-width master stateroom is amidships and features a queen berth at the forward port corner, large ensuite master head with shower and tub aft to port, lots of built-in locker and drawer storage at each side, and beautiful teak interior. The very spacious feeling of this master cabin is amplified by a mirrored aft bulkhead with vanity and huge overhead skylight for ample natural light. Aft is a stairway to amidships, above decks.

Next aft is the tool room and engine room. Aft of the engine room is a guest stateroom, accessed via stairs from the main salon, and featuring a queen berth, built-in settee, and ensuite guest head with separate stall shower. Ample storage in two large hanging lockers plus under-berth and under-settee space. Note emergency exit at the foot of the berth. The oiled teak and bookshelves give this stateroom the warm ambiance of a library or den.

Main deck level includes an open-plan salon aft with exotic hardwood dinette and modern galley forward. Salon offers built-in TV, VCR and stereo space. Large windows are double-paned safety glass with

Main salon view aft.

Master cabin with sky hatch.

Crew quarters.

Levelor blinds between the panes. Four doors and three stairwells lead out from the main deck house, connecting it readily with all decks - port, starboard, forward and aft, as well as above and below decks areas.

Aft deck can be fully enclosed with roll-down canvas, creating a comfortable all-weather area with built-in seating for 12 around the stack, with PFD storage beneath.
Expansive pilothouse is much larger than comparable Romsdahl's and offers excellent views while underway. Port and starboard doors, centerline helm and raised settee with table aft. Enclosed separate cabin with captain's berth and head compartment (head not plumbed). 6' + headroom throughout the vessel.

Modern teak and white enamel galley offers full equipment, including (2) large Euroflair refrigerators with freezers; 4-burner Creda range and convection oven; Kitchen Maid dishwasher; garbage disposal; icemaker; microwave oven; Corian countertops; stainless steel sink; hot/cold pressure freshwater system with hot water heater. Galley is well located adjacent to the dining area, with custom glass display and storage rack; storage is excellent throughout and set up with active passagemaking in mind!

MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT
& ENGINE DETAILS:

Large, walk-in tool room is adjacent to the engine room and offers workbench, storage lockers to starboard, and battery compartment. Note that A/C panel and systems control manifold are easily accessed here without entry into the engine room; lead-lined doors contain noise and separate the tool room from the engine room.

Mains situated each side in the engine room, with genset on the aft bulkhead bench and cruising generator drive by port main. Engines are connected to a single drive train with variable pitch prop as is typical of this class of vessel. Port, starboard and below deck steel fuel tanks with crawl-in inspection ports. Separate steel tank for engine oil and hydraulic oil; (2) hydraulic pumps for windlass & maxi-fin stabilizers; CO2 fire control system.

OTHER FEATURES & CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
Mareva’s heavy construction is exemplified by her carvel planked, double hull. Steam bent oak frames; outer planks are approx. 2-1/2" thick and inner planks are 3x6" and 2x8" to give a final hull thickness of approx. 11" with air spaces in between. Norwegian pine hull is through bolted and riveted in addition to trunnels and fasteners.

Stem and stern post reflect same massive construction. Above deck construction is all aluminum frames on outside and inside with wood

frames and marine plywood on outside deck. Above deck houses are wood, constructed over aluminum frames and beams which extend the full width of the vessel, ending in vertical supports which connect onto massive caprail at deck level.

Also note emphasis on heavy fire retarding foam core insulation as well as noise dampening insulation where appropriate. All doors are varnished teak - 2" thick - with steel tie rods concealed within, and double thick safety glass.

Mareva is one of few trawlers custom built as yachts by Romsdahl ship builders in the early sixties. The builder is famous for its canoe stern fishing trawlers, which are THE name of that North Sea industry. Of these 7 yachts, some traveled on their own bottoms to exotic destinations while others were shipped to Lido Yacht Services in Newport Beach CA.

Mareva sailed on her own bottom to the U.S. and has continued a colorful history with trips along the California coast traveling to Bora Bora and other destinations in the South seas. A heavy displacement hull, she is a sea kindly vessel and a pleasure to enjoy in port or at sea. Her tasteful interior is salty and luxurious at the same time, and she shows substantial care throughout!

Following smoke damage from a fire apparently caused by faulty wiring, $500,000 was invested in renovations and updates in the early 90's.

Mareva is a stunning liveaboard, and with 4,000-plus mile range and massive scantlings, a superb bluewater cruiser.

Last survey showed about 17 soft "pins" anywhere from dime-sized soft spots to a vee pattern wasting 3/4 at tops to semi-pointed bottoms at or above deck level from failure to treat and coat properly through the years. (Pins are continuations of the frames upwards through the main deck, then being the interior vertical frames for bulwarks) The stem was also wasted from top-cap nearly to deck level and with a narrow spot extending below deck.

This apparently was caused by the copper stem cap having been awl punched to a nautical design, painted numerous time, and then holed through in re-punching, inviting rain incursion into stem area over many years.

As of 1/1/02 the stem has been correctly redone along with all but one remaining pin that is being finished now. Unless she is under contract, the owners probably will run her to Seattle this spring. If you would use her in California, it would be a good idea to inspect her before they're committed to the trip.
