HISTORY:
The boat was built by the original owner in Oregon in the late 80's. Construction was completed and she was launched in 1991. Steeldiver is of all steel construction. The hull material is 3/16 inch steel and the keel construction is 1/4 inch steel, bottom plate is 5/8 inch steel and the decks and cabins are 1/8 inch steel. She is insulated throughout with spray-in-fire resistant urethane foam, which has been covered with fire proof paint.

Steeldiver's maiden voyage took her to southeast Alaska, down the Pacific Coast to Baja California Sur, Mexico. The boat has sailed coastal mainland Mexico as far south as Manzanillo. Most of the 6 years afloat have been spent exploring the Sea of Cortez. She was built for long distance cruising and is a stable and comfortable sailing vessel. A minimum of wood to care for makes her a very low maintenance vessel. All the interior wood is teak and Honduras mahogany. The companion way steps and hatch trim are oak. White marlite is used on the ceilings to lighten the interior and counter tops are formica, in a butcher block pattern. The interior floors are newly carpeted with indoor/outdoor carpet in a blue grey tone. All the cabinetry is mahogany with cane fronts for ventilation. The newly upholstered settee is in blues, greys and mauve. The two swivel chairs are mauve, as well as the V berth bunks.

There are about 60 hours on the re-built engine and the boat has recently been hauled out and sandblasted; the hull and topsides repainted. The builder of Steeldiver has lived aboard her for 6 years. She has proven to be a very comfortable home and great recreation on the water.

INTRODUCTION:
The main salon is entered from the cockpit by means of a sliding Lexan hatch and hatch boards. To the right of the helm's seat is a ladder with three steps leading to the cabin below. On the starboard side, is the galley; immediately ahead and including the port side, is the main salon. The galley extends down the starboard side of the boat and includes a propane refrigerator, double stainless steel, extra deep sink, 2 burner, propane stove and oven. A propane Paloma water heater is under the stove. A long work counter has shelves and storage cupboards under it.

Proceeding aft is the master stateroom. The passageway between the galley and the engine room allows entry to the engine room through 2 doors on the starboard side. Along the port side, across from the engine room, is a long work bench. The chart table is located forward of the work bench and directly portside of the companionway stairs. Above the chart table is a shelf to accommodate a HAM radio and antenna tuner. A file cabinet is below the chart table and extra storage under that. Forward of the chart table and mid-ship is the main salon with a U shaped couch and fold out table. 2 swivel chairs across from the table allow 8 people to sit around the table.

Forward of the dining area, on the port side, is the head with toilet, shower and wash basin. Across from the head , on the starboard side, are 5 deep drawers and small hanging locker. A large hanging locker with 4 deep shelves in the back stands next to the small hanging locker. The door from the head and the door from the large hanging locker can be opened and latched to form a small dressing area when exiting the shower. The V berth is forward with 2 bunks on either side. A mattress wedge fits between the bunks to create a queen size bed. There are shelves above each bunk. On the port side of the V berth is a door to access the chain locker. Located throughout the boat are four large overhead hatches which provide ventilation and emergency exits. One is in the V berth , one in the head, one in the hallway outside the head and one over the master stateroom bunk.

Cabin Plan.

15 Bomar Rain Drain opening portholes provide good cross ventilation.
All cabins have 12 volt florescent lighting and the master stateroom has two reading lights at the head of the bed. The wheel house is lighted by a florescent tube light and so is the aft deck and lazarette area.

THE MAIN SALON:
The U-shaped, wrap around couch sits 6 and can sleep 2 when a mattress insert is in place. When the fold-out table is extended, 8 people can dine. Under the 2 swivel chairs (which tip up) is a very large area for storage. Behind all the seat backs and under all the seats are storage compartments. Behind the swivel chairs is long and deep storage. Book shelves, a counter for a CD player and disc storage are also in the main salon. In the middle of the cabin sole are 2 floor panels which open into the bilges to house the fresh water pump & valves and can also store very large items. Access to the transducer is trough the largest of these two areas. It is located portside, under the couch area. The entire boat has recently undergone remodelling. Every nook and cranny throughout the boat is utilized for storage.

THE GALLEY:
The galley is located just slightly aft of the main salon area, on the starboard side. The propane refrigerator (Dometic) is to the left of the stainless steel, extra deep, double sink with storage beneath. A slight rise in the floor in front of the sink and stove holds canned good or sodas when stored on their sides. The 2 burner propane stove with oven is to the right of the sink. At eye level, just below the portholes, is a shelf for plates, glasses, spices, etc. The paloma water heater is directly under the oven. Proceeding aft of the stove is a long work counter with a cupboard on the left and a pantry at the right of this counter. 3 large drawers and fold down cupboards are under the work counter. A florescent light illuminates this working area.

MASTER SUITE:
The master suite is directly aft of the galley area and is the full width of the boat. A double bed occupies 3/4 of this cabin and could be expanded to a queen size bed with the addition of foam against the port side hull. There are 4 large drawers under the bed, a vanity and seat with storage under each and an additional area for articles left of the foot of the bed. Right of the drawers is a short hanging locker and next to that is an area for scuba tanks or whatever. Over the head of the bed is another long storage area.

WORK BENCH:
Located on the port side of the boat, across from the engine room, is a work bench approximately 9' long. 4 large drawers and cupboards beneath it allow for ample storage of tools and equipment for maintaining the boat. A complete set of mechanics tools, vice and basic maintenance tools are included. At the aft end of the work bench is a door that leads to a vast area of storage under the bed. Long items, lumber, etc. fit nicely here and the rudder head and hydraulic steering cylinders are housed here. Beyond this area, across the entire stern is the lazarette, which is entered through a hatch topside and down a ladder into the 9' X 5' X5' space.

ENGINE ROOM:
The engine is located under the cockpit sole and is accessed from 5 doors. 2 are across from the work bench area on the port side, 2 doors on the starboard side and a door behind the companionway steps. There is extra room to carry stackable crates for storage, as well as the house batteries.

HEAD:
Forward of the main salon, on the port side is the head equipped with sink, shower and a Groco marine toilet. The walls are white Marlite with a navy blue formica counter top. Storage under the counter extends the length of the head. Shower water is pumped out with an electric pump from its own sump. The holding tank is located under the sole in the hall way outside the head. Across from the head are 5 deep drawers and s short hanging locker over them. Right next to this locker is another long hanging locker with 4 deep set drawers in the back of the closet. By opening the head door and latching it against the short hanging locker, one can create a dressing area when exiting the shower.

Deck Plan

V-BERTH:
In the bow is the V-berth with 2 bunks on each side of the boat. A v-shaped mattress can be put into place to create a queen size bed. There are shelves over each bunk. Access to the chain locker is through a door on the port side of the head of the V berth.
